Version, Date:
KB2821819, 26.04.2013
Operation System:
Windows 8 x64
Description:
This package installs the following update module (QFE) provided by Microsoft.

USB devices stop working in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.

Symptoms:
Assume that you have a USB 3.0 hub that supports the selective suspend feature attached to a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. Additionally, USB devices are connected to the USB ports. In this situation, all the USB devices may stop working, and they are displayed as removed from the computer.
Note. This issue also causes a failure in the USB-IF compliance test.

Cause:
This issue occurs because of incorrect retry logic for enumeration. The USB 3.0 hub cannot enumerate super speed ports. Therefore, all USB ports on the computer start to re-enumerate continuously. Then, all USB ports that are attached to devices stop responding.
